My Sherline/CNC Machine Shop

What's New!

Collets made with Sherline CNC Lathe and Milling Machine.

I have developed a collet which fits the Dremel Trio Machine and holds a 1/8" shank cutter. It works beautifully.

More experimenting making CNC toys. I finally made some tops out of Lignum Vitae and Vera Wood, first cousin to Lignum Vitae.

I have become most surprised and delighted how Lignum Vitae cuts and finishes. Upon cutting and sanding, I found that I can get a shiny finish simply by holding some cotton cloth on the spinning piece and getting the natural oils in the wood to come to the surface.

I also learned that from Windsor Plywood that the brown finish on Lignum Vitae turns green when placed in sunlight making a very exotic looking skittle top. The tops in front and to the right have turned a very interesting green and chocolate color. The green is much more intense than I can photo with my limited digital camera knowledge. The tops in front and to the left are also Lignum Vitae that were just cut and have not been exposed to much sunlight yet.

The Vera Wood tops in back had a chocolate swirl color for a little while, but with exposure to sunlight also achieved some olive green tint.

Both woods produce a very similar intoxicating scent.

I now have the latest BobCAD-CAM software, which now has a very strong 3D capability.  I look forward to getting up to speed on this software  I still prefer my own site design than those that would have come from a purchased template. I'm staying true to myself, so I don't expect this to make me rich.

I still find more gratification designing and making something simpler using my own imagination.

It is the third week of January and Spokane finally got some snow accumulation.

Hopefully this will provide the water we need for the winter wheat.
